The Snowbirds Have Landed

We got here tonight about 9 p.m. EST, and in fact Dad did cut down the offending branch. He did it himself since his helpers never did arrive. Tomorrow we’ll help get the RV site finished, then move out of the driveway over there so we won’t be in everyone’s way, but for now we’re [...]

Pie

The pumpkin pie pecan crust turned out very well! The filling could have used more spices, though. That’s what I get for following a recipe instead of my instincts… Anyway, we had a very pleasant visit with Earl & Judith, and look forward to seeing them again soon, perhaps as soon as January when we’ll [...]

Pecan Pie Crust

As mentioned earlier, I decided to bake a pumpkin pie using a crust made from pecans instead of flour. Here’s the recipe I found, which has the added bonus of using Splendaâ„¢ instead of sugar, so it’s practically sin-free. (Pecans and butter have lots of calories, though, so it’s not exactly a “free” food.) I [...]

One step forward…

We had a wonderful visit, albeit brief, with Phil’s brothers and their wives, who live just 5 or 6 miles from the park where we’re staying. After taking us to lunch, everybody came back to visit and admire the new RV, and see a demo of Second Life. Last evening Warren came back over and [...]

Moving at last!

We did finally get out of Hiawatha today. Now we’re set up at Tuttle Creek State Park, a few miles north of Manhattan, KS. The park is just south of a big dam, at the bottom of Tuttle Creek Lake. It’s pretty nice, but the water at our site seems to be turned off for [...]

Not leaving yet…

Yesterday we went to the courthouse in Hiawatha to clear up the last of our business here (paying the sales tax on the new RV), but it was closed for the Veterans’ Day holiday. So, we decided to stay here till Monday to take care of that, then we’ll go to Manhattan (Kansas). It will [...]

Still Here

The good news is that the ophthalmologist he saw today thinks the thing Phil saw in his eye last week was just a different kind of floater, not a burst blood vessel. However, he does have a tiny (unrelated) hemorrhage in his right eye next to the optic nerve that she wants to watch. She [...]

It’s Later Now

Whew! Moving is hard work! Even when it’s just small things from one place to another right next door, just the schlepping and going up and down steps from one to the other really wore us out. My knees and back still hurt, but they’re getting better thanks to some serious sleep-time. It’s very much [...]

Back in Kansas, but with a difference!

We’re back in Hiawatha, but in the new motorcoach it feels a lot different! It’s wonderful, but the past several days have had their moments … which I’ll write about later. It’s very late, and I’m really tired. In short, though, we will be here for a few more days, not leaving immediately as previously [...]

Frustrating, but Productive Day

This has been a stressful day, but through patience and perseverence (on Phil’s part, not mine — I don’t do patience very well, especially with people who are exhibiting incompetence), everything seems to be turning out ok anyway. The first thing that happened today was a little stressful, but not in a bad way. The [...]
